Well, the heat has finally caught up with us in Southern California, and that means it will probably be here until Halloween, maybe even Thanksgiving.
It is also Disability Pride month, and maybe you know that I feature characters with disabilities in all of my books. Why? Because disabilities are incredibly common, and they are nothing to be ashamed of. I speak from personal experience. My question is: Why aren’t we seeing more books featuring characters with disabilities?
Not all disabilities are visible, and that is why I am so delighted that School Library Journal included We Could Be Heroes in its July roundup of MG and YA titles featuring Non-Apparent Disabilities for Disability Pride Month.
I am busy writing away. My novel Sunny Parker is Here to Stay will be available in April 2024. That one is basically all wrapped up. And I am finishing my draft of my 2025 book, which is still untitled, but once we have the title down, I’ll let you know.
Speaking of Sunny Parker is Here to Stay, we have a cover for it! I’ll share it soon.
Hope you are relaxing at the beach right now, or at least staying cool! Have a great day.
