I had a blast moderating a kid lit panel called “Walking Through the Fire: Hope & Resilience in MG and YA Fiction.” We talked about how authors try to help readers build resilience even as they read about difficult experiences and emotions. Here I am with the amazing Sally J. Pla (one of my all time favorite mg authors) and Yi Shun Lai (whose debut YA novel A SUFFRAGIST’S GUIDE TO ANTARCTICA comes out in February 2024–and everyone is already talking about).
I am eagerly awaiting Sally’s newest book, THE FIRE, THE WATER, AND MAUDIE MCGINN, which I’ve preordered (and you should too). It comes out in July.
Also on the panel, but alas not in the photo, were Julie Buxbaum and Chris Baron. Chris also has a book coming out very soon–The Gray. I know it deals with anxiety, so of course–as a pretty anxious person myself–I have preordered this one, and so should you!
