Happy Fall!

Well, it’s fall in Southern California, and that means pretty nice weather. In fact, it’s the perfect weather for writing–not too sweat inducing. Right now, I’m working on two different projects. One project is sort of on the back burner while I finish a bad rough draft of the second. But I’m making progress on that second project, and if I’m really lucky I’ll have that bad rough draft done by the end of January.

In the meantime, I am getting constant joy from my sweet dog Walt. Here’s his latest picture.

I’m also reading lots of books. I’m listening to a tremendous middle grade novel called A Hero’s Guide to Summer Vacation by Pablo Cartaya. On the surface it is about a boy who takes a fateful cross-country roadtrip with his father. But it is also about so much more, including the importance of stories and art, family, loss, and freedom itself. I’m also reading The God of the Woods, a novel for adult readers about the search for a missing girl. The story goes back and forth in time and point of view, and it is written by a writer really at the top of her game.

It’s all very humbling, to be honest. But writers persevere, and so I will keep plodding along.

Have a great fall!

Best,

Margaret
